You've spent months planning your wedding flowers, so the last thing you want is a bouquet that looks tired before you even walk down the aisle.

While your florist plays a huge role in creating beautiful, long lasting designs, there are also a few things you can do to help your bouquet stay fresh from getting ready through your last dance.

Here are our favorite tips for keeping your wedding flowers looking their best.

1. Keep Your Bouquet in Water Whenever You're Not Using It

This is, without question, the most important tip.

Flowers are living things. Once they're cut, they're no longer receiving water from their roots, so they rely entirely on the water they're placed in. Every minute spent out of water shortens their vase life.

During hair and makeup, while you're eating lunch, between portraits, or anytime your bouquet isn't in your hands, place it back in a vase with fresh water.

Think of it this way: if you're hot, your flowers are hot. If you're thirsty, your flowers are thirsty.

Your florist isn't asking you to keep it in water to be difficult, we’re trying to help your bouquet look just as beautiful during your ceremony and photos as it did when it was delivered.

2. Choose Locally Grown Flowers Whenever Possible

Freshness starts long before your wedding day.

Most cut flowers have an average vase life of just 4–7 days. Imported flowers often spend several of those days being harvested, packed, refrigerated, flown across the world, processed, and shipped before they ever arrive at your florist.

Locally grown flowers are typically harvested much closer to your wedding date, meaning they are fresher and often last significantly longer.

At Le Champagne Projects, we prioritize sourcing locally grown blooms whenever possible because fresher flowers simply perform better.

3. Embrace Seasonal Flowers

Seasonal flowers naturally perform better because they're grown during the time of year they're thrive in.

Trying to source blooms that are out of season often means they're traveling longer distances or being forced to grow outside their ideal conditions. That extra stress can affect their longevity.

Your florist can help you choose flowers that are naturally abundant during your wedding season while still achieving the overall look and color palette you love.

4. Ask Your Florist About Hardier Flowers

Not every flower is created equal.

Some blooms are incredibly resilient, while others are delicate and require much more care (especially during those hot Summer months).

For summer weddings or outdoor ceremonies, ask your florist to recommend flowers that hold up well in the heat.

One example? Baby's breath.

We all saw the leaked photo of Taylor Swift’s supposed toss bouquet. Baby’s breath certainly won’t hold up without water, but even with water it’s going to wilt if it’s warm, in the sun, you look at it wrong lol. Sub in Orlaya for a hardier option.

While every flower has its place, it's worth discussing longevity with your florist when selecting your bouquet.

5.Trust Your Florist

Your florist wants your flowers to look incredible all day long too, so heed their suggestions.

You may have your heart set on a specific flower, but some varieties simply don't hold up well in a bouquet (especially in the heat.) Trust your florist to recommend substitutions or similar blooms that will give you the same look while lasting beautifully throughout your wedding day.

Wedding flowers are one of the few details that are truly alive on your wedding day. With a little care, they'll reward you by looking beautiful from your first look to your final dance.
